Mont Royale International College Champions Industry-Integrated Hospitality Education Through Work-Based Learning
The 2.5-year Diploma in Hotel Management combines academic learning with structured hotel-based training, including an anticipated RM1,500 monthly industry allowance during the 18-month WBL component.
PETALING JAYA, MALAYSIA, 28 October 2026 — As Malaysia's hospitality and tourism sector continues to place importance on developing job-ready talent, Mont Royale International College (MRIC) is advancing an industry-integrated approach to higher education through its Diploma in Hotel Management (Work-Based Learning) programme.
The programme is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and the practical competencies required by today's hospitality industry, offering students a structured pathway from classroom education to real-world hotel operations.
Bridging Education and Industry
Unlike conventional classroom-centred learning, MRIC's Work-Based Learning (WBL) approach integrates academic instruction with practical industry experience.
The 2.5-year Diploma in Hotel Management begins with a campus-based academic component, followed by approximately 18 months of structured work-based learning in the hospitality industry.
During their industry placement, students are expected to gain exposure to hotel operations, customer service, food and beverage services, front office functions, housekeeping and other relevant hospitality activities, depending on their assigned roles and participating hotel arrangements.
The programme aims to equip graduates not only with academic qualifications but also with practical experience, professional confidence and workplace competencies.
Supporting Students Through Industry-Based Learning
A distinguishing feature of the programme is its financial and practical support during the work-based learning component.
Under the programme's industry placement arrangements, participating students are expected to receive a monthly allowance of RM1,500 throughout the 18-month WBL period, representing a potential cumulative allowance of RM27,000 per student.
Accommodation, work-related meals and transportation support are also incorporated into the planned industry placement arrangements, subject to the applicable terms with participating hotels.
This model is intended to reduce students' financial burden while allowing them to develop practical skills in a professional working environment.
